Summary: Fans of Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo will be bewitched by Lana Popovic’s debut YA fantasy novel about a bargain that binds the fates—and hearts—of twin sisters to a force larger than life.

All the women in Iris and Malina’s family have the unique magical ability or “gleam” to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love.

But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

Wicked Like a Wildfire is the first in a two-book series. Readers will be rapt with anticipation for the sequel.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting:  First off, that book has an absolutely gorgeous cover that i just want to get my hands on and sit and stare at for hours. Secondly, Roshani Chokshi recommends this and has a blurb on the Goodreads summary. And Thirdly, the story idea just sounds AWESOME! I love unique ideas of magic and this sounds super intriguing. I mean interpretting moods as magic, how cool is that?!?! Magic and curses and sisters, oh my! Sign me up!

34272550Title: Piper

Publication Date: October 31st, 2017

Publisher: Razorbill

Barnes & Noble

Summary: #1 New York Times bestselling author Jay Asher and co-author Jessica Freeburg brilliantly reimagine the classic Pied Piper legend as a powerful graphic novel about loneliness, love, and vengeance. Fans of Neil Gaiman and Through the Woods by Emily Carroll will devour this eerie, atmospheric retelling.

Long ago, in a small village in the middle of a deep, dark forest, there lived a lonely, deaf girl named Maggie. Shunned by her village because of her disability, her only comfort comes from her vivid imagination. Maggie has a gift for inventing stories and dreams of one day finding her fairy-tale love.

When Maggie meets the mysterious Piper, it seems that all her wishes are coming true. Spellbound, Maggie falls hard for him and plunges headfirst into his magical world. But as she grows closer to the Piper, Maggie discovers that he has a dark side.

The boy of Maggie’s dreams might just turn out to be her worst nightmare…

With striking illustrations from Eisner-nominated artist Jeff Stokely, Piper is an exciting new departure for Jay Asher that deftly touches on the same themes of truth, guilt, and redemption that made Thirteen Reasons Why a beloved bestseller.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting:  If you’re new to BooksofKings, let me inform you that Jay Asher is one of my all time favorite authors and I will automatically buy anything he will write. Which is reason Numero Uno I’m desperate for this book. The second is that this sounds like a great retelling of the Pied piper which is an old fable that doesn’t get many retellings. A bonus is that this sounds like a hybrid of a novella and a graphic novel which will make it super fun to read. Sign me up!

Summary: In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn’t believe in luck. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment —

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun… until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting:  If you in any way, shape or form, like contemporaries, then Kasie West is the writer for you. She writes absolutely delightful and page-turning contemporaries that just melt your heart at the romances between the MC & the LI. While I did think her latest one did fall a little short, others I have read by her have been absolutely delightful. Plus all her books seem to be unputdownable and you finish in less than a day. Summary: The highly anticipated coming-of-age story for the world’s greatest super hero: WONDER WOMAN by the # 1 New York Times bestselling author LEIGH BARDUGO.

She will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting: TBH, I’m like 90% excited purely because it’s by Leigh Bardugo. Having read both SOC books & 2 Grisha books, I can honestly say I would probably read anything by Bardugo. I do not know much of anything about DC heroes & villains. All I know, I’ve gotten from whatever I’ve seen on CW DC Shows. But i’ve already seen some partial ARC reviews and I am definitely excited for this origins story by Bardugo. This one and the Catwoman one that Sarah J. Maas is writing. Sign me up!

Instead, she discovered a city ruled by secrets. And the biggest secret of all: Henrietta is not the chosen one.

The poison in Rook’s system is transforming him into something monstrous as he begins to master dark powers of his own. So when Henrietta finds a clue to the Ancients’ past that could turn the tide of the war, she persuades Blackwood, the mysterious Earl of Sorrow-Fell, to travel up the coast to seek out strange new weapons. And Magnus, the brave, reckless flirt who wants to win back her favor, is assigned to their mission. Together, they will face monsters, meet powerful new allies, and uncover the most devastating weapon of all: the truth.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting: The world of demons and various magic users that Cluess created is one I inhaled upon first reading it and one I want to revisit time and time again..now that i think about it, it’s time for a reread. I can’t wait to revisit all the characters Cluess has imagined into this world and I will definitely be pre-ordering this one. Sign me up!

Summary: The sides have been chosen and the battle lines drawn.

Echo awakened the Firebird. Now she is the only one with the power to face the darkness she unwittingly unleashed . . . right into the waiting hands of Tanith, the new Dragon Prince. Tanith has one goal in mind: destroy her enemies, raze their lands, and reign supreme in a new era where the Drakharin are almighty and the Avicen are nothing but a memory.

The war that has been brewing for centuries is finally imminent. But the scales are tipped. Echo might hold the power to face the darkness within the Dragon Prince, but she has far to go to master its overwhelming force. And now she’s plagued by uncertainty. With Caius no longer by her side, she doesn’t know if she can do it alone. Is she strong enough to save her home and the people she loves?

Whether Echo is ready to face this evil is not the question. The war has begun, and there is no looking back. There are only two outcomes possible: triumph or death.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting:  The Girl at Midnight series is one i truly love and can not wait to see the how it all will pan out. The Main character, Echo is one I adore because she just feels so easy to understand and she likes to make quips literally all the time.  The way that Grey portrays the prejudice hate between the two races, Avicen & Drakharian, is easy to connect with and I just love how she has characters who can easily see past the race and love whats underneath. Literally the gay peacock is my favorite and he’s an adorable idiot. I love the magic of this world and truly can’t wait to read the ending to this amazing trilogy. Sign me up!

Summary: Kate Harker is a girl who isn’t afraid of the dark. She’s a girl who hunts monsters. And she’s good at it. August Flynn is a monster who can never be human, no matter how much he once yearned for it. He’s a monster with a part to play. And he will play it, no matter the cost.

Nearly six months after Kate and August were first thrown together, the war between the monsters and the humans is terrifying reality. In Verity, August has become the leader he never wished to be, and in Prosperity, Kate has become the ruthless hunter she knew she could be. When a new monster emerges from the shadows—one who feeds on chaos and brings out its victim’s inner demons—it lures Kate home, where she finds more than she bargained for. She’ll face a monster she thought she killed, a boy she thought she knew, and a demon all her own.

Why I’m Desperately Waiting:  This Savage Song was one of the most unique and interesting books I read in 2016 and of course it was written by the queen of high fantasy, Ms. Victoria Schwab herself. So there’s no doubt that the sequel to TSS is going to be one amazing thrill ride as well. August and Kate had such an interesting dynamic and i can’t wait to see how it is 6 months later. Sign me up!
